There are many many reasons why your personal game cannot open the save file. Firstly make sure you are using the correct file, which can be found in your %appdata% location (all XP users should look in the C:\\Users\\USERNAME\\AppData directory). Once you have located it, try opening that file instead of any others in that directory. If that doesn't work, restart your computer and then retry to see if it loads properly. If none of these methods work, try looking for a message on Windows' Action Center -> Application History -> System Restore menu where you have an option to restore an old restore point. Restoring an old restore point will undo most changes made to your registry, which are usually the cause of the problem. Please note that restoring a restore point can also erase some save files, so be sure to back up your saved games beforehand. If there is no system restore option, then you should start with reinstalling the game itself. You can also try using a different Windows username account to see if the problem lies in your personal file. If neither of these methods work, it may be due to the fact that your save game is corrupted or too big for Steam Cloud Saves to handle properly. The only workarounds are to either reduce the size of your save game or to find somewhere else to store your save games. If all else fails, try copying your save game files to another location and then use a third-party program like 7-day Save or Gamesave Manager 2.0 to extract it. Note: Gamesave Manager 2.0 can extract BIN files from the cloud, but cannot extract BIN files that are not in the cloud (which is what most GOG games use). Be sure that you create the backup using the same exact version of Castle Wolfenstein that you originally used when you created your save game. If you attempt to use the backup on a different version of the game, it might work or it might not. And if it doesn't, then you'll be out of luck. Note: A save game can only be extracted from one computer at a time. ARTICLE ENDS HERE... ARTICLE START... If your Castle Wolfenstein save game is corrupted or if the game won't open the save file, then there are methods to try and recover your progress. These methods were discovered by using some trial-and-error methods after some modders had mentioned that they had encountered similar problems with their save games (especially during multiplayer). Some of them are only temporary fixes, but they are still helpful for saving time or if you can't skip to the part of the game where you had saved your progress. If there is something wrong with your save game, then Steam Cloud will automatically try to fix it. This means that you will have to restart your game and then resume playing from where you left off. Steam Cloud will write over your original save game file, so be sure to back up your saves before attempting this method. ARTICLE ENDS HERE... ARTICLE START... 8eeb4e9f32 18
